Need help with prop diagnosis and removal

Today while heading out at full throttle my motor revved out and I stopped moving. I put it into neutral and eased it into gear, it was fine until about one third throttle and then it spun out again. When I got home I tried wiggling the prop back and forth and ther is some play there as well as a bit of black rubbery stuff. Does this sound like the hub is gone and how do I get the prop off if it is? The motor is a 1997 25 hp merc. Thanks.

Remove spark wires. put leather gloves on, or block prop with wood and remove prop nut. pull prop off

My Prop has a plastic nut followed by a larger metal one, I couldn't get the second one off but, the prop got wiggly and I just slipped it off the shaft. Can I just take it into the shop like that? Thanks
