Need help with serial number.

Hello every, if I am posting in the wrong place I apologize. I am getting a 9.8 merc titled and can't find no info on the eng with the serial number on the plate. The # is A11208. I was told it may be a 1985 by s friend but it was just a guess. I need the year to get it titled and also wanting to buy a few parts for it. Please help. Thank everyone in advance for any help you can give

Well, the A should be followed by 6 numbers.-----So is it a 9.8 or a 9.9 model ?----Posting a picture will help you too.

Yeah. you are missing a number. I think the 9.9 AXXXXXX models were 1986-1987. Get the correct number and we can narrow it down for you.

It won't let me post a pic. It says file size to big and I can't get the pic to reduce in size. The number I posted is the exact on on the tag. If it helps it black and has white mercury lettering and three different brown stripes going around it.

The brown stripes were only used for the 84 / 85 model years.

Well that gets me closer. I have been searching for 2 days going thru hundreds of web sites but cannot find that serial number anywhere.
