I have a 1989 Mercruiser 5.7 driving an Alpha One/Gen one.
The past few weeks, when I accelerate and approach 3000 Rpm, SOMETIMES the alarm sounds. as soon as I back off the alarm stops. I am running a 140 deg thermostat. under normal slow running, the temp gauge reads about 145 deg. when i accelerate to come up to planing speed, the temp comes up about 5-10 degrees. This is when the alarm sounds (sometimes)
My question is: Is there a separate sensor for the alarm and the gauge? I've looked over the factory manual and it is not exactly clear on that. I see no reason for the alarm to sound even if I am hitting 160 degrees. Shouldnt the alarm only sound above 180?
I did replace the water pump in the drive this weekend and it made no difference.
My conclusion is that either the Gauge, Gauge sender or the alarm sender is bad.
Can anyone help with some info...please?
Thanks!
Mark
