There are no titles for outboards here in Oregon, and I've never heard of them in any other state, either...

I had the same issue here in Missouri. I came from a state that didn't title motors and I had no bill of sale. MO had a form/affidavit that I declared myself the owner for x years and had it inspected for serial # by F&G officer and got a title issued. Check with your states titling authority for mechanism there of titling motor in your situation.

Re: need help with title for outboard

Find a friend or relative in one of the states that doesn't title outboards. Have them make you out a signed bill of sale that includes the model and serial number of the outboard.

Since most states don't title outboards, the states that do have to deal with outboards from out of state. A bill of sale from one of those states generally works.

Just make absolutely sure that the outboard isn't stolen. If it is, the serial number will turn up in a stolen property list and you and the bill of sale signer will be in beaucoup trouble.

Check with your local DNR.(Not the DMV) They have a form that she can sign and with it and a bill of sale you can get a tittle in your name.
Also you need to do it before 15 days or thier is a $25.00 fine + the normal tittle fee and S.C. sales tax.
I just had to do the same thing with a ob.(From a fellow that just passed away. (God Bless him.) A little tip here! Just get her to put a good date on it, and you will have no fine!!!
Good Luck, Tim

The easiest way to resolve the problem,IF the lady was original owner and IF she ever had the title is to have her file for a lost title.
