I went to lake today to fish. Motor started and ran fine. Good or decent hole shot. Ran a mile or two. Fished , then sarted motor ran fine. Went to another hole and fished! Started and tried to take off fell flat on face. Restart and did same thing. Tried several times, same results. Finally got it to putter in gear.Give it any gas Die! Sounded like it was missing? Rev up fine put in gear die! Putted back toward dock, over two miles away. All of a sudden it sounded like it wanted to take off. Floored it and off we went. I ran it for several miles to see if it would do it again. Shut down then started and floored it motor rev up BUT slow out of hole! Looked at rpm's showed 3 grand when floored. Wide open it was running 5800 RPM's. When it just idle it would die.
It has new gas rebuilt carbs last year. Any Ideas where to look,or look at? It's a Johnson Carb 200, 2000 model.# J200PLSSC

Re: Need Ideas

The bulb didn't go flat, because I checked it after second attempt to run. There are no twisted lines I know of....I'll check vent . Could it be a fuel pump?
Any other Ideas?

Re: Need Ideas

I ckecked all the fuel lines. No leaks, no kinks, and bulb pumps up fine. Vent system open. I also checked spark plugs. The look fine not gas fouled or oily. No water in tank or filter, any more suggestions?
Thanks David C Sr.

Re: Need Ideas

it's a long shot, but here's something that will give you wierd, yet sometimes intermittent symptoms like that..........the rod linking the throttle lever to the timer base, some motors has a plastic (nylon?) ball-joint type fitting on both ends, some just on one end. If one of those happens to break, successful acceleration becomes a hit or miss occurence.

One nuther remote possibility, is a wire or two coming off the stator and/or timer base getting chafed or otherwise losing some insulation, and randomly screwing up the ignition.

Re: Need Ideas

Found Problem!!!! It was a screw in the tank. When they put new cap on they had to guess at some mounts and missed a little. It just barley leaked but would pull in water from bottom of hull. where bilge pumps are. Sort of hacks me off but that's Life !!!!!
Thanks for replys!!!!!
