I have a Sears Simpson, also reads Sears Roebuck, air cooled outboard motor from i'm guessing from mid to late 60's the model # is: 582 60920
serial # is: 126505 B
After oiling the motor and lower unit and cleaning the carburetor the motor cranks and seems to run well, I would like to rebuild the motor and replace gaskets. Does anyone know where I could find a manual for this model? Also any help in identifying manufactor and year would be greatly apperciated.

Laingsoutboards.com will have what you need and probably even history on the motor

My question now is: are these motors worth messing with? I'm unfamilar with the Clinton brand. It seems Sears had alot of outboard manufactors.

Yeah. Sears never made their own outboard. Just about everybody made them for them at one time or another. If it needs anything major, it isn't worth fooling with. But it's always educational making them run, and they're about as basic as they come. I don't know of any manuals or gasket sets offered. Use chainsaw oil instead of outboard oil, I'd mix 32:1. Have fun with it, and always keep a paddle in the boat. ;)
