need info 3.8l omc

i just purchased a 3.8l for my renken but want to know what year ,hp etc it is . it is a chev not a buick because the distributor is in the rear and the bell housing bolt pattern is the same as my cobra stern drive but that is all i know about the engine. model#j17ostmrcis serial#j718836

229 cubic inch 90 degree V6 Chevrolet. Made from 1980 to 1984.
OMC version was 170HP 2 BBL and 185HP 4 BBL
Volvo called it the AQ175A 2 BBL 175 HP
Mercruiser called it the MR185V6 and only used it with a 4 BBL @ 185HP

thanks Ensign,I just removed a 250 straight 6 from my 3.0l cobra outdrive and am going to replace it with the v-6 omc (with some modifications).It used to have a 3.0l omc straight 4 but was blown when i got the boat 5 years ago.My only issue i think is getting the y pipe for that outdrive.My question is would a y pipe off the 6&8 cyl models fit the 4cyl cobra outdrive models? the shift cable tubing location seems to say no..
