I have a Clinton engine model k350, is there supposed to be some kind of linkage to the mag plate? mine doesn"t have any, the throttle lever only goes to the carb. this is a wards 3.5hp, mid 70"s, I would think there has to be some way to advance the spark.

there is no way for the mag plate to turn it"s fixed in place. the problem I have is it has good spark when the plug is held against the block, but when it"s screwed in the plug hole it"s very weak, it barley lights my tester light, brand new plug. motor won"t start, will sputter a little, strange, never seen this happen b4.

It's possible that the closed end cylinder motors don't have an advance after all the little
Briggs and Strattons don't have one.
The open end motors show a advance lever. After market manual says "most motors" the speed control lever rotates the stator plate.
No speed control lever shown on the open end motor.
Be sure the points are clean and set at .020,Flywheel key and key way in good shape flywheel nut tightened to correct torque.
Aluminum 400-450 inch pounds,Iron (with steel keyway insert) 375-400,no insert 180-200.
