I was given a 7lb. Folding Grapnel Anchor. My boat is a 21' Forester cuddy and it will be mainly used on the Ct. River, and Long Island Sound. Is this kind of anchor ok to use in these waters? How do these anchors differ (besides looks) from Fluke anchors? Can I use this anchor, or should I go buy a fluke?

Hi Mark

I think these are used for temporary light anchoring or as a second anchor. Don't think they have super holding abilities like the danforth does...

I use one on the Snake or Salmon rivers and they are great for hanging on to the rocky bottoms of them waters. They also dig in on silty soft lake bottoms real well, you need to use lots of heavy chain. Chief
