Need info quick: Will a 1988 88hp Johnso Lower unit work with a 1993 88hp V4, Johnson

When I do a search on the net for replacement I get two different lower unit options. Something about crossover flow. They look I dentical, I just want to know if they will work or not. Could save me some bucks as I can get my hands on a 1988 lower unit to fix my old mans 1993 Lower unit.

That should work fine. They are the same generation with the larger gear case and the gear ratio's are the same.

my mechanic said that 1992 through 1996 are interchangeable and the same lower unit fits mutliple hp ratings, 88, 90, 115, etc. There are two types of OMC engine in this size class. One is a crossflow, or 90 degree, the other is a looper, or 60 degree. They are not interchangeable from what I've been told. BTW, if you run across a site that has more than one for sale for less than $500 post it because I am looking for the exact same lower unit you are. I'll do the same.
