Need main and forward gear Evinrude 50

I purchased the boat and engine new in 1998. The lower nor engine has never been apart. The engine may have 300 hours if that and is in pristine condition (or was). Three weeks ago my Dad and I went fishing. We left the dock and while under power I heard something in the lower unit let go. We used the kicker the rest of the morning and finished our trip. I pulled the hub assembly out and found that the forward gear and the main shaft gear had meshed. It looks like it wasn’t shimmed properly from the factory to me. I don’t have the shim gauge and called my local Evinrude dealer. I took it over to them, the mechanic agreed that it appeared to be shimmed wrong.

The issue? The two gears are indefinitely back ordered according to dealer and around 500 bucks. I’ve struck out attempting to find a used lower that I can use for parts. I hate to spend 6500 on a new 4 stroke when mine just needs two gears!!!!! Does anyone know of any aftermarket outlets or junk yards that sell used parts..

Any help would be very much appreciated!!!!!

That has nothing to do with shimming just a less than robust lower unit. Kind of a common failure, try here no guarantees https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...97627&_sacat=0
I persanally would go with the WSM gears.

Agreed they are less than robust !------------Your location.-----You will need all new bearings / possibly a driveshaft .-----If you are in Ontario try----evinrudeparts.ca-----Possibly can help you.

If it was shimmed wrong it would have let go a long time ago......
These are good gears and wouldn't doubt was the BRP supplier
