Need main and rod bearings for a 4.3LX Merc

I'm planning to install main and connecting rod bearings on my '88 205HP 4.3LX Mercruiser. The Mercruiser numbers are 23-818465 for a set of Main bearings, and 23-11992 for a single pair of connecting rod bearings. Is there a cross reference to automotive bearings? As usual the price differential is significant. Is there a reason not to use automotive bearings?

There's No Difference,..........<br /><br />Go to your local parts house,+ order your bearing There.............<br /><br />I wouldn't be buying Bearings till you've pulled the old 1s,+ determined the size,.. or Under-size that you Need.......

Bondo, I thought it was necessary to have the crank ground to a precise size in order to install oversize bearings. Is this not true? I am sure the bearings are standard since I know no work was ever done on the motor.

They can leve the factory undersized!<br />You must tear it down and see what size you need, a mic or plastigauge is gonna come in handy...

Ayuh,........<br /><br />They're All size stamped,......<br />And, are available in several sizes,.. 1th. under,.. 2th. under,....<br />If machine work is needed to clean up the crank,... Then you're looking at 10th. or 20th. unders......<br />As Stated Above,.......... Measuring is the Only way to See Exactly what you've Got...............
