While tuning my rebuilt 302, I ran for a few minutes with the engine cover off while watching for water leaks. She picked up about 300 RPM with the infusion of cool air and throttle response was noticably better. My question is I am considering trying one of the following two ideas. I'm leaning toward the blower... Anyone have any comments on these two ideas?

1. Install a vent in the engine cover to let cool air in over the carb (may add K&N flame arrestor). I question the safety and noise level increase of this idea.

2. Install a blower in inconspicious area and route some hose to the area of the carb and let the blower push fresh air to the carb. Approx CFM for an inexpensive blower would be 100-125 CFM.
