My old 1990's Sears battery charger is starting to act up and I need to replace it.
Any recommendations?

Gets used a lot...golf cart, tractors, boat, cars, fencer, breakaway batteries, etc. some AGM in the mix

What kind of output do you have or wanting. If your not in a hurry about any 15 to 25 AMP charger will work for recharge. For long term charging of AGM need a switchable AGM/lead acid type charger. Were talking anywhere from 30 to 300 dollars for a charger.

i have 2/10/start now. Could use more but need the low output for fence batteries etc. More interested in the smart features. Price isn't a major concern

dingbat, you may want to look into buying a smart charger. They are a lot lighter then what you're use to or presently have, but they work amazingly well. And they do have 2/5/10 and start options too. But they shut off after the charging cycle is finished. They sell for around $40 bucks and are basically everywhere. The old battery chargers were shunt type chargers and therefore needed large transformers to work properly. The new type uses a Pulse type charging circuitry and no need for those large transformers... Most auto parts stores sell them as well as Wally World...

There are many options.
The Schumacher brand is available nearly everywhere and is reasonably priced for the quality.
You can get 2/10/15 Amp and Lead, Deep Cycle, AGM, and Gel all in one charger.

Uncle Willie, that Schumacher battery charger is exactly the one I use most of the time. It works very well without any issues. I also have one of their older versions that used shunt regulation with heavy huge transformers to accomplish the charge. I have to say I like the newer version better... I only wish they would have installed an ON/OFF switch instead of plugging it in and unplugging it to start and stop everything...

Schumacher !

I'm also a big fan of Battery Tender, but they are slow, especially on large deep cycle batteries.

An ON/OFF switch would be nice.
The only complaint is the noisy FAN.
It is a common computer fan available on the internet in a very quiet ball bearing version for less than $5.
It goes in Pug-and-Play. Now we are happy in our quiet bliss!

I also have their 3A Maintainer, It comes with 3 interchangeable ends for the charge cord.
It has no fan, is dead quiet, very small, and runs ice cold in maintenance mode.
I plug it into the boats 12 outlet (AKA Cigarette Lighter) during the summer, to keep the battery peaked.
It is keeping my Motorcycle battery company over the winter.
Once it charges the battery, and 3A is slow but effective, It maintains by charging for about 1 second every 2 minutes.

I'm not a fan of LED displays for long term operation but it looks like the Schumacher Speedcharge SC-10030A is the one I need. Any other suggestions?

Ayuh,.... I've got a couple chargers,... If one gets trashed, I run over to my local Napa, 'n grab another one,.....

Not all the same, but mostly 2/ 5/ 10 auto-charge type,.... I like the little gauge to see what it's doin',...

Donno the manufacturer of 'em, typical $30./ $40.00 chargers,...

They get used on anything from an ATV to Bulldozers,...

Rained on, 'n run over are the 2 biggest killers of 'em,..... ;) :D

I have had a couple of those digital speed chargers........ far as I am concerned they are crap, didnt last no time at all...
I purchased the SE4020 couple 3 years ago after the last digital charger crapped out, the 4020 works great.
