I have a 15' rowboat w/ a 1992 9.9 Johnson w/ electric start.....I need a new battery and have been using an old lawn mower battery for a while, but it too is getting weak. Will a new lawn mower size battery be sufficient sufficient to start this motor ???

Re: Need new battery question

It's a 2-stroke, 10 hp motor. Any lawn tractor battery will do. Make double sure your charging system is operating properly before you go this route.

Re: Need new battery question

Specs call for a 360 CCA or 465 MCA battery with 90 minutes reserve or 50 amp-hr.

Re: Need new battery question

If weight isn't an issue, use any small car battery. I had a '75 15hp w/e-start and minimizing boat weight was a priority. I used a 'premium' lawn mower battery, and it worked just fine for 2 years until I repowered with a newer 15 (still worked fine after 2 yrs). Check the different ratings of lawn mower batteries when shopping and compare to boobies^ stated specs.. and disconnect one of the battery cables for long-term (winter) storage (true for any application).

Good luck!
