Need new Bindings

Hello,

I have a pair of Hydroslide water skis that are about 7 years old. Last trip out I split the dry rotted binding (I do wear a 14 size shoe). There is nothing wrong with the skis so I just want to replace the bindings. These are the lace up style. I found out that the Hydroslide Chaser bindings are the same thing. I am wondering if I can buy any brand binding and they will bolt up, or do the manufacturers make them all different? The Chaser bindings are about $75 and I am curious if I can find a less expensive alternative.

Thanks.

Re: Need new Bindings

A lot of it depends on how your old bindings are mounted. Some of the high end ski's use inserts built into the ski itself and you'll need to make sure the bindings you buy will mate up to your ski. With a lot of older ski's and some of the lower end ski's, the bindings are physically screwed into the ski with wood screws. If that is the case, you could use any binding and if the holes don't line, just fill the old holes and carefully drill new ones.

On a side note. I just bought a new ski and new bindings. I paid a little more for the cam style bindings and I'll never go back. I put my ski on dry now and then jump in the water. No struggling, yanking, soap, or any of that non sense now.

Re: Need new Bindings

Thanks for the info. Mine do screw into the ski. Looks like maybe 4 to 6 screws down each side. We love the bindings, I was just wondering if other manufacturers would fit mine. The majority of skis I have looked at have the style that you put your foot in then slide the heel part up until it is snug. We had an old set like this, but it was very painful on our heels because the corner of the plastic piece that slid up would dig into our heels. I took great pleasure in throwing them away; haha. Anyway, I will probably just buy the exact replacements. I am the only one that has to wet them before putting them on because of a 14 foot going into binding made for sizes 6 to 12. Thanks.

Re: Need new Bindings

$75 is dirt cheap for ski bindings, not much chance of finding anything cheaper than that new. Chasers are wakeboard bindings, crappy ones at that. Problem is that they don't really sell many standalone combo ski bindings since most combos cost under $150 for the ski/binding set

Yea I starting to see that. I would agree that the Chaser bindings would not hold on to your feet as securely as you would need for wakeboarding, but for skiing we absolutley love them. I only paid I think $119 or less for the skis several years ago and thought if I could find some decent ski bindings for less than $50 that would be great. But I do think we will go back with the Chasers.

Thanks.

Re: Need new Bindings

I ordered the Chasers and they should be here next week for about $78. My next thing is to try to find a "cheap" wake board for my big size 14 feet! I bought a left over Airhead 134 with bindings from West Marine last fall for $56.99 for my wife and kids. Now i know I just got lucky and did not expect to find a board to fit me in that price range (6"5" 210lbs), but this is rediculous. Trying to find a board with XL or XXL bindings usually start at about $350. Now I am not sure I am going to even like wakeboarding and do not want to spend big money right up front. Several people I work with have boards, but nobody has one with large enough bindings. I have looked on Craigslist religously for weeks but no luck.

Anyway, I'm just griping!
