Am looking for a power upgrade for my '86 Bayliner, 19.5' Capri hull. Has a Volvo AQ131 with 275 penta drive. I would like a 3.8 or 4.3 litre with either a 280 or 290 outdrive. I will need the whole train including the transom plate so i am told, or will need to adapt. Any leads or other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks D.B.

Don't pull the Volvo transom plate... Stay Volvo, they had a 3.8 and a 4.3 chev power setup. You will need the bellhousing and everything. Look for a trashed boat with that setup. Your 275 has a 4 cyl gear ratio, but if you're running less than 17P prop now, you could probably get away with repropping to 19 or 21P with a 3.8/4.3 and keep your drive (worth a try at least)

if you can afford it that boat will wake up with the 4.3 and the xdp drive. the existing transom cutout will have to be slightly enlarged to accomodate the transom shield adapter. you may alsohave to add or alter some engine mount stringers.
the nice thing is the later style trim system is used on the xdp. the SX is also a good reliable option as well.
