Ive got a Lund 16 foot Aluminum Tyee II. Current RPMS are 5250 at plane. And I am running about 38 MPH. My current prop is 13 1/4 X17 and is Aluminum. I want to replace this prop with a stainless. I like the speed I am getting, although I guess it could always be faster. Hole shot is decent. Right now when Im trolling with the main motor, I can do it at about 1.5 to 2 mph hour just above idle. I would like to continue to be able to do that. Not to worried about cost of the prop, but it would be nice if a less expensive one worked as well as a spendy one. Thanks for the help in advance.

One answer would be to go with a 15P in SS for efficiency and raise the engine atleast 1 hole.
I think this would put you much closer to where you should be.

Kenny I have raised it two already from the original position. I thought about the 15 but Im worried I would lose alot of speed. We are running pretty far distances out here so the more speed the better.

Re: Need new stainless for a Lund.

If you go with a high quality 15P in SS you will get the R's up closer to where they should be, and you will actually see better fuel economy for those long-range trips, and loaded engine RPM of 5250 is not where you want to be for best economy through-out the power range.
You may not lose any speed if you choose the correct prop, but the RPM has to come up to see any fuel efficiency.
My V6 Rude is rated at 4750-5750...I prop for 5800 for everyday use, and when testing the last series of props, I installed cylinder head temp gauges and a shadin fuel flow meter.
I found when I got too much pitch and got down into the 5300 range and below, My cylinderhead temps went up(not good), and my fuel flow went up quite a bit..enough that I proved to myself that pitch is not the answer to best range, or cruise.

Gotcha-now Im sold on the 15 pitch prop, which one do you think would work for this setup? When Im able I think I am going to lean up the carb jets one notch as well.

Either will perform fine...the stiletto will have the edge though...
On the jets, yes, drop the mains atleast 1 size, but verify whats in it is the sea-level jets first.

Great-Thanks Kenny! Ill let you know how it goes. I am going to drop the jets first and then test, just to make sure I dont have to go with a 15 pitch.
