Hiya,
I seem to have everything for the most part up and running and finally put together on this boat I just bought. I have a 92 Mercruiser 5.0 with a Alpha One Gen II drive. When running at the back of the motor at the drive shaft it seems to me that is louder than it should be and a little clackity. Any thoughts on this or does this a normal scenario?

Thanks,
Eric

Yuppers on the fluids, but so far I have only pulled the lower unit to replace seals and the impeller. I plan on pulling the drive and doing the bellows and all that good stuff, that will be a new and first time project for me, but I just want to wait till after the weekend before the 4th for fireworks reasons and then I will get to it. I guess never having had a new boat and not really remembering what my old one sounded like I just wasnt sure if it were normal to sound as it does. Thanks for the advice though, always appreciated

I also got to thinking, when I got the boat about 2 months ago a core plug behind the front port side was popped so I replaced it and lucky as I was the block is fine but I never thought about alignment until now and Im wondering if maybe it is off alignment and this is why it is on the loud side

Good idea, I have not, but I will either get onto that this evening after dinner or tomorrow.

Thanks

Just pull the outdrive and inspect the gimbal bearing and ujoints. It takes all of 10 minutes to pull the drive, and an $8 gasket kit to put it back on. Pulling the complete drive is nothing more than a yearly maintenance job. Sounds like it's been way over a year for yours.
