I received a 1965 40 hp Johnson Model # RKL-27A the other day for FREE with the controls. He is my Mom and Dads neighbor at the campground and I know him well. He had it on his pontoon boat but it was to heavy for it so he took it off. He didn't have an ignition switch for it.when he gave me the motor. So my question is does anybody know how many terminals the original switch has or the original part # for the switch so I can go buy one. Now before TASHASDADDY says to go buy a manual, I will soon. Im layed off right now and I have to watch my money. I just want to get it started on my sawhorse and check the compression and spark and all the other good stuff before I put it on my boat.

As long as there are battery cables connected you should be able to turn it over and start it by jumping the starter soliniod.

Now that depends. How many wires do you have coming from the engine to the switch? Is there an eletric choke? Is there a kill switch?

I have been able to start and run my 1978 35hp rude with just 3 wires attached to the switch.
