I have my engine out of the boat for general cleaning and painting and am not satisfied with the plumbing. I want to replumb and tidy things up so it looks nice. Here are a couple of photos of my engine as it looks now. I don't like the fittings that were used, or all the hoses hanging where they are. Please, I need information on making everything look professional. I also hope that this is the right place to post this.

Regards,

Mick

Ayuh,.... Have ya got room to mount the exchanger forward of the motor,..??

That probably would cut down on the lengths of the hoses, 'n neaten it up,..

It appears the block, 'n the manifolds are fresh water,...

Where's the raw water pump,..??

I'm gonna move this to the I/O non-repair forum,.... seems a better fit,...

Probably an Alpha so pump in the leg.

Bondo took the word right out of my mouth. I'd relocate the CCS to the front. Also, loom your plug wires and run them below the exhaust tubes.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have an older Alpha 1 outdrive. Are there brackets available for front mounting the heat exchanger? I would like to use the same one as it is in great condition except for the paint. Raw water pump is in the outdrive I believe. The engine has only about 200 hours on it after it was installed a couple of years ago. Where could I purchase some looms? The wires seem to be too long, maybe they are standard length. There are a couple of aluminum brackets that are attached with the riser bolts and I wonder is there is another better way to fix that. One bracket is for the throttle/shift and the other holds the relay for the thunderbolt ignition relay. Does one need special formed hoses to move the heat exchanger up front?

Would appear to be a kit from San Juan engineering - I've got the same one, but my hoses are generally much shorter & connect at the bottom center of the exhaust manifolds. I also see two temp senders - one at the outlet of the intake manifold, and the other near the raw exit of the HE. Could probably eliminate the latter, unless it's providing useful data for you. I'm attaching the only factory image I've found of the system - as my own is removed at this time for some upgrades.

You might consider going back to the stock height valve covers, unless you have some sweet roller rockers underneath those. :) You may be able to eliminate the extra bracketry for the shift plate and ignition amplifier - check your elbows and see if you can mount directly (with the shorter valve covers).

Cleaning, sanding and painting does wonders for the Heat Exchanger.

kbsunlovers,

Thanks for the pic's. The Chrome valve covers are going to be replaced with painted steel ones, and they are the older stock 4 bolt outside mount. I guess the biggest problem right now is trying to find the bracket that goes in front to mount the HE onto. Then possibly some hoses that may be curved or bent to fit. I have seen some kits but they include the HE as well and I don't need that. Possibly I could call San Juan Engineering and get some answers. It would be great if some folks that have done this or have an existing setup like the one that I wish to go to, had some engine compartment pic's, but it looks kinda futile at this point. I won't give up yet, there just has to be some pictures some where.
I truly appreciate all the folks that have posted on this issue, it's a great help!
