need Pre-alpha upper seal replacement instructions

My drive is losing oil into the drive shaft bellows.
I am told that I need to replace the upper seals.
1. Can anyone provide instructions for doing so?
2. Can anyone tell me how to pressure test my outdrive?

You'll be deep enough that you'll need a manual.Tools aren't that expensive.A special wrench for the cover nut holding the whole shaft assembly in,and a torque wrench to snug it up (200 lbs ft as I recall)

The manual will tell you where to watch out for the shims (DON'T loose any !)

You'll most likely need a new u-joint yoke (worn at the seal areas ) but that replacement is standard proceedure with the shaft out.

As for the manual,don't substitute.Get the real thing from Merc.

You need service manual #4, PN 90-86137
Merc dealer, Ebay.
