Ok,I've read and read and I still have no clue as to the best prop for my boat. The boat is a 95 17ft Javelin bass boat. Its powered by a 1976 Evinrude 115 hp outboard. The prop that was on it spun on it's hub so im lost as to best selection for prop.It lasted long enough for a couple launches and it seemed to struggle out of the hole..It has a
13 1/4x17 pitch prop.any suggestions??

The first thing I would look into is the condition of the motor.----Is it producing the power indicated on the decals !----If it is struggling with the 17" pitch there may be something wrong with the motor.---I suggest a compression test on your new aquasition.

think that is a middle range pitch for that motor. Range is around 15 to 23 or so.

If the motor tests out, there may be a hull issue (water under the floor -- water logged foam). (Don't forget to replace the impeller if the motor is otherwise ready for use.)

I tested the compression when I first bought it and it was all 135-140..The boats actually in great shape hull wise.Onr thing is,I have 4 batteries and 15gallons if fuel,PLUS 4 people!lol

Over-loaded and/or under-powered. Prop doesn't make horsepower, just connects the horses to the water.

Find and try another known good 17p .By what you wrote the prop hub was on its way out from the start. You may need 2 props one for your avg boating and one for when your heavily loaded.I change props all the time up at camp.I may go up very heavily loaded and then when were there I just change the prop to my normal avg use prop .5minutes done. That could happen once or twice a year so no biggie.Or more.
