I am still on a mission to find the best running prop for my setup. here is the info i have..
Boat: 1996 16.5 fiberglass starcraft tiller (heavy)

Motor: 1984 65hp commercial (hydrofoil)

Props:---

I have been running a stock OMC 13 3/4 x 15p aluminum prop for 2 years and have been having bad plane times and a top speed of 30-31 @ 5800. 5800 is when the aluminum prop started to cavitate.

I currently switched to a Stainless prop which weighted twice as much as the aluminum. i was afraid i was going to lose RPM's and overall performance.. but.. i had it out today

The stainless prop made world of a difference. Plane times are cut in half and i picked up 2mph.
Stainless Prop: 13 3/4 x 15 (SST II?) the boat handles better and i can trim it alot further without cavitation.

Problem..... I actually picked up 500 RPMS with the stainless prop. running 6300-6400RPM befor cavitation... My optimum operation range is 5000-6000.

I have tried a 13 1/4 x 17 stock OMC aluminum prop. and the boat would not even plane on its own.

So if i cant move up in pitch, but my RPM's are too high, what am i suppose to do? I need the hole shot of a 13 pitch prop. but i need the top end of a 17 pitch prop. and the RPMS are there to go to 17.

Do they make a 16 pitch prop?
Do they make a well ventalated 17 pitch SST? something that would give me a good hole shot.??

thanks for any recommendations.

Some of the rpm with the SST II may be "artifical" since the prop is so worn. When we compare test data we kind of assume that we're comparing new to new. If the cup and diameter on that prop was to spec, I bet you'd be back around 6000 or so.

I still should keep RPM's under 6k right?

oh, is it worth trying a 13 3/8 x 17 in SS?
there must be something i can do make it more efficient.

If you're going to keep that prop I'd suggest sending it to a prop shop and asking for a quote for a rebuild. Once you get some diameter and cup back it may be fine. Can't hurt to ask.
