Great forum. Been trollin' here for years and have always found the answers to all my questions. Prop stuff is a little different. Need an answer more specific to my set-up.
Have a 70hp Johnny on a 16ft tri-hull bass boat (bout a thousand pounds). When I bought it the guy said it had the wrong prop on it. I found some rocks on the Columbia last night and now my prop looks like swiss cheese. While I mainly bass fish, we've been getting into tubing, skiing and wakeboarding but my boat had a really hard time even getting a wakeboarder out of the water. Runs awesome otherwise (new fuel pump, lines, carb rebuilds, plugs, etc, etc).
I was told the 17" pitch was too much for pulling an adult out of deep water so I ordered a 13x11 prop (evinrude.com has it as an option for my motor). Now I'm thinking that's too much the other way. Should I cancel the order and get a 15 pitch? Or should I run this one and get another one for when I'm not skiing? I really want the boat to have no problem yanking someone out of the water but don't want to damage the motor.
BTW- no tach on the boat. Hope you can help. Thanks in advance
