Need quick battery disconnect like NASCAR

I was watching the NASCAR race in California today. Jeff Gordon had a battery problem in his car. The crew waited for a yellow flag pit stop to swap batteries. It was connected with a quick release plug. Zip, zip and it was in and out. He didn't even lose a lap.

I store my boat offsite on a trailer. I would love to be able to swap batteries that quickly.

Is there anything like that available for the marine environment?

web page

Don't know how reliable they may or may not be or whether Nascar uses anything like this ,but here's a link to one that is availabe.Remember though ,loose connections can be problematic in boat applications.

Thanks for the reply.

The one they were using today was a plug connector. Two cables from the battery fed into one plug (female) and the two cables from the boat fed into the mate (male). I think my bilge pump has the same type of plug, just much lower gauge. What do you think?

If I understand you correctly the ones you speak of are sorta like welding lead connectors except they are double receptacle? If so,I would trust the clamp type to those on a boat. But then ,that's just my 2 cents as I have used neither.

Well, that was a quick bump.

As I was saying....

The reason I am interested is because my battery sits for extended periods. I usually don't have the chance to put it on a charger overnight before taking her out.

The battery is new but has tried to leave me stranded before. I purchased one of those portable jumpers for instances like that. Works well.

Maybe a cutoff switch like this would also help?

The boat is 1998 17' Aquasport with a 90 Johnson.

i like the looks of it, and it has a latch. all the others, i personally would touch. 1st problem look at the wire connectors. the old squeeze type that always corroded and quit when on a hot date and it's raining.

I bought something similar to those from Cabelas or Bass Pro a few years ago.

Had a heck of a time trying to solder them onto my cables and fit them back into the recepticle. AND, they didn't plug and unplug very easily.

let us know how the Anderson plug works out.

Tbonus, I know exactly what you are looking for. Those connectors are used on the large batteries on electric forklifts and hand trucks. Do a search on EBAY for "ELECTRIC FORKLIFT BATTERY CONNECTORS" and you will get a couple if hits. You can try other variations also and you may find more.

CG

Here's a good link:

powRparts

Those connectors are real slick, both sides are the same. There is no male or female. They are color coded so only like colors connect.

CG

175 Amp Power Disconnect Jumper Cables

Any reason why they wouldn't work well in a marine environment? Anyone ever try anything like them?

Just be carefull about unpluging them if there under load SPARKS

I use them on floor scrubbers that get wet ALL the time and they do very well

The silver plateing on the contacts really does well against corrosion

tommays

You might visit a couple Towing yards and ask them where they get there quick connects. Most tow trucks have them so they can quickly hook up their jump cables to jump someone off.
