I'm attempting to install new speakers in my 94 Aquatron 1800 and ran into a snag. I'm putting 2 new speakers in each side panel, I got the rear holes cut by the couch and when I went to the front I had to stop. Picture this, the side panel has maybe a 2" fiberglass lip from the capybara it attaches to. About 6-8" before the console that 2" lip arcs down to the height of the console. Where I need to drill my hole is right over that arc. Am I going to hurt anything by taking a 1/2 moon shape out of that? I just don't want to risk any structural strength. I'm in a mad rush to get this done today so hopefully the family and I can go out for the first time all together on the boat.

The shaded area is what I'm needing to do. Don't get jealous of my awesome artistic abilities lol.

Lack of speakers never stopped anyone from boating. You have 2 speakers to use and you can figure out how to mount the others later.

I can't picture it.

yes, picture will help . . . having trouble visualizing it. sounds like you ran into an obstruction behind that panel where you want to mount the speaker and are wondering if it is OK to cut into it . . . or something like that.

It is OK with me, but don't take that as advice though

I really can't get a good picture because of where it's at. I figure it's not going to be as strong as the fiberglass but in that spot 3 of the speaker screws will be going through it. So in theory the speaker would kind of act like a brace lol. I'll try to get some pictures of the actual area when I get home from taking the admiral shopping(can't ever get anything done lol).

If it is hidden behind the front panel after you make the the cut you may be able to strengthen the area back up somehow .
Pics will help ...It may crack the area above the cut over time
