Hey guys and gals, Ive just completed replacing my old mercruiser 898 and upgraded to a 350. Ill cut to the chase. I dont seem to be getting fuel, I basically swapped everything over. Did i need to replace the push rod for the fuel pump to a different lengh? Am i suppose to prime anything? This thing has been a huge pain in the *** and im lost at this point. I just want to enjoy it.... Any help is really appreicated

Doing a tad more research, i didnt realize that there is a bolt that goes through and holds the fuel pump rod. im pretty sure i have a longer bolt then 1/2" long in there.. Hope thats the issue

That longer bolt is how you hold that pushrod in place when changing the fuel pump so if you have a longer one it is definitely a problem. Hopefully the engine you built has the eccentric on the cam for driving the fuel pump.

Easiest way i have found to prime mech pump system is to first pull fuel from the tank through the feed hose, then connect to first item (pump or water separating filter) make sure your separating filter is FULL! Then take a bottle(i use an old gear oil bottle) and find a way to fill carb bowl. Finish all your connections. Then use your bottle to spritz some fuel into carb and start.

Let us know how you like the extra horses... I went from 235 to 330-340 and it was a real kick in the pants. Glad you got it going. Now, get out there and enjoy it.

Great day out, love the 350 in this thing, Sounds great and way better power. Just need to adjust the shift cables a bit, Sticks in gear at times. But other than that very happy

If it sticks in gears it can be the shift interrupt too. If you go through the shift adjustment by the book you'll prob'ly be good.
Congrats on the 350. It must rip in your cvz.
Where do you run your boat? I work near Bradford, if you ever get stuck on something PM me.

It didnt stick before i did the motor, Plus the old motor was sitting in the boat crocked......I read everything on adjusting the shifter, going to do it in the morning. Thanks for the offer, i will keep you in mind... Im very happy with the results of the upgrade. I keep the boat on danforth bay in Freedom NH.
