Suspect my 1996 90 SPL non VRO may be going into limp mode because it is getting hot. I get NO beep (only had boat a short time and didn't know about this) when I first turn the key on A forum member recommended I test the sensors. I disconnected each of the brown plugs coming off the head and grounded them on wire leading back to control box. Turned key on and nothing. I disconnected the horn and applied 12v and horn works fine.

Where / what else can I check? On the engine wiring loom there is a black and brown female plug at the bottom that has nothing plugged into it and I can't find anything that will plug into it (maybe left by factory for VRO equipped).

You do not ground the sensor wires, you ground each engine harness tan wire while the key is ON.

Sounds like a wiring prob in the harness. Did you gound the tan wire at the horn itself ??

No. No way to do that without cutting the harness....and I didn't want to cut the harness. When I unplug the harness leading to the horn I can apply 12v and it BEEPS.
