Ok so i have a 12 foot flatbottom jon boat. It only 32 inches wide. What are some things i could do to modify it? Speed is not an issue at all. I just kind of want a fishing rig. Like storage and stuff like that. thx cougar

Can you post pix of what your boat currently looks like? Does it have an outboard? An electric trolling motor? A trailer? I'd like to know what the starting point looks like.

Lots of good ideas on this forum!

Ayuh,..

I used to have a Jon that was 12' by about 32",...

It was Tippyer than Any canoe I've ever been in...

And,.. It's weight carrying capacity was Not very much,..

I agree with TD,... Get a Bigger boat, that 1 won't hold much more than yourself,+ your tacklebox..

I have a 1432 that I've used for the last 10 years. Max HP is 7HP and the max persons is 2 or 250 lbs. I must say that I did not like this boat at all for hunting and fishing in the river because it is so unstable. I did, however, like this boat very much when I was fishing by myself in electric only lakes. It is easy to handle on and off the trailer and it moves very well with even a small trolling motor.

About the only mod you can do is add floors and perhaps a box or two. My brother in law added side arms with floats to his boat to make it more stable, but is looked ridiculous to me. Just so you know, I recently bought a bigger boat so I'd say if you're planning on using the boat with others you should consider a bigger boat. If you're planning on using it by yourself, take a long, hard look at the things you don't like about it the next time you're out and you'll have an idea what needs to change.

I thought about modding my 1432 but for me it was like modding a Ford Pinto...didn't really make much sense. You could probably find a used 14 or 16 footer that is much wider for little money, then it would be like modding an old Granada. Seriously though I'm sure you'd be happier with a bigger boat if you're using it with other people.

If you must mod the current boat, do a search on google for jon boat mods and you'll get more ideas.
