What does the term decarbing mean and what is sea foam or deep creep, what are the small dime size screens in the side of my carbs for, what is a reed block? Just a few questions that seem a little dumb but if you tell me once I wont ask twice. Thanks, Jake (1992 evinrude 40)

Re: Need some info, please

2 cycle engines leave a black deposit in the motors....carbon. Seafoam or deep creep (same item only ones a spray) removes this built up carbon. It can be found at most Auto Parts Stores. Decarbing is a good maint practice. Carbon build-up is bad for the motors and can lead to a poor running engine and can also be the cause of stuck/broken rings

Not sure on the screens, my motor only about 30 years older... don't have them

Reeds are the 2 cycle motors valves. There thin pieces of metal that open and close by crank case pressure. They are located behind the carbs on the intake.

I'm no expert but what i've learned lately decarbing is a method of dissolving or burning out built-up carbon in your motor. Seaform is a petroeum product that is used for decarbing purposes in addition to other things. The seafoam product apparently works well when mixed in with your fuel. Deep creep is an spray product from seafoam that allow you to spray it directly into cylinder heads, carborators, and other motor parts. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes and start your engine. Let the engine idle and you'll see tons off smoke coming out which is apparently burned up carbon. They say it's really good for your engine although i haven't tried it yet on my 25hp johnson. I bought a can of deep creep yesterday and plan on decarbing next week.

Thanks for the decarbing info, but I,m still puzzled about the dime size screens on the carbs. Oh, one more thing. I keep expecting to see some type of a air intake filter, something obvious, but I dont, were is the air coming in.

Just a note... if your going to do this in the drive.... it could be messy. It takes the black goo and drops it out the exhaust. I made the mistake of doing it about 10' from a van... got a lovely black film on it.... it was great...lol
