I'm trying to fix a previous owner mistake, they painted the boat with some type of paint that is chipping and flaking and has brush marks all in it. I want to sand down to the original gel coat to get this old paint off. I used 220 grit to get some of it off. Can I go a little coarse to get it off quicker? And is this the original color of a wellcraft?

Here's a picture:

Re: need some more help

depends on the repair work. if your scuffing and grinding, I would go as low as 40 grit. if your just removing the old paint, I would stick with the 220 and go slow so you dont remove more than you need.

the picture is a bit washed out and there is no context. I recommend a series of pictures, including one or two of the whole boat.
