need some quick help

I just bought some super tech oil. The bottle says for 50-1 mix 6 ounce to 6 gal gas. I currently have been using pennzoil premium outboard and the bottle calls for 16 ounces to 6 gal of gas. my question is will it matter if the two mixtures get blended together? I want to top of the tank but it stills has about 2 gallon of the pennzoils mix in it.

Hey, seems like you would add 4 oz's oil to the four gallons of new gas added to the 6 gallon tank. Most 2-cycle oils are compatible so there shouldn't be any problem. Good luck...

50:1 is 50:1

If you used 2.6oz (aprox) per gallon of one brand you still use the same amount of another brand to achieve the ratio of 50:1 Perhaps the 1 in the 16 oz. to 6 gallons was not printed correctly.

If you do decide to go one oz per gallon it might cause serious problems.

Ahoy, Flahthead.

There are 128oz. in a gallon, 768oz. in 6 gallons.

To get a 50:1 mix you need 2.56oz. oil per gallon and 15.3oz. per six gallons, as Yepblaze explains.

It is easy to add 1 pint (16oz.) to a 6 gal. tank. You get about a 48:1 mix, which is what all modern, non-oil-injected engines use. That is the correct mix. Yepblaze mis-stated or typo-ed that 16oz. was misprinted. It is the other way around.

Either you misread the numbers on the SuperTech bottle or it is misprinted. Six ounces of oil per 6 gallons would be a 128:1 mix.

The mix stays the same when you change oils.

Good luck. :)

Perhaps the 1 in the 16 oz. to 6 gallons was not printed correctly.

C'mon JB, How is that "Mis-stated? It simply means that the "1" was missing...

Hmmm. We read that differently, I think.

The statement is quite unclear. The "16oz. in 6 gallons" was not printed, correctly or otherwise, on the Supertech bottle. It was printed, correctly, on the Pennzoil bottle.

Because he referred to the "16oz. in 6 gallons statement" it is reasonable to assume that he is referring to the time it was printed, not to the time it wasn't printed.

It was the "6oz. in 6 gallons" statement that was printed in error.

The above orgy of nitpicking is the result of years of editing technical manuals for clarity. Sorry. Old habits die hard. :)

We used to call it bench racing. We all sit around doing what-ifs outloud.

You guys are right the bottle is misprinted. It should read 16 ounces to 6.25 gal. of gas.
