Can anybody give me some info on this motor "1984 70 hp Evinrude". I'd like to know the weight . I also heard that the hp ratings were changed in the mid 80's and I'd like to know if it's the old or new ratings. Is there any way to get a little more hp out of it. I'm using it on a 15' fiberglass bow rider "1990 Forester 151 Phantom". 70 hp is the max for this boat. Thanks

With tilt And Trim, it weighs about 250#. Without, about 230#. HP for your motor is rated at the propshaft. Without getting into the engine (Porting, Polishing, Etc), the best way to improve performance is to make sure it's running in peak condition and that you have it propped correctly. Shoot for wide open throttle of 5800-6000 RPMs...

I don't have power trim. I don't know if thats a good thing or not but it's a little less weight. The boat is put away for the winter so I'm just gathering information for the spring. I'm going to have it fine tuned in the spring. I don't know anything about synchronizing carbs so I'II let the experts do that. Can't wait for the spring.
