need suggestion on new boat buying

hey guys, i am planning to buy a 1997 prosport 19.50 ft center console with a susuki 140hp,some electronics, for $9,300. But i need to know if this engine is good and dependable Mostly i do offshore fishing so i dont know if the boat and the engine are good for this type of fishing.

also i have heard that the parts of the suzuki are very hard to find what you guys know about this

Ahoy, Bob.<br /><br />There has been a lot of discussion of this engine on other Forums where mostly big boat/offshore fishermen gather.<br /><br />Every (100%) poster who has one (or two) of the DF140s is very happy with them, whether they are black or white (Johnson).<br /><br />I have read no negative comments at all, except that many recommend the Johnson version because of the larger network of dealers and the Bombardier backing. Nobody has complained of lack of service or parts for either version.<br /><br />I wouldn't hesitate to put one on a boat that can handle that much power.<br /><br />Good luck.

Bob,<br /><br />I'm not so sure the engine ( if it's a 97) is 4 stroke.<br /><br />If it is a two stroke, it would be the first year for EFI. The old Suzuki 2-stroke 115/140 were reliable engines, yet a bit thirsty. Parts and service can be an issue in some parts of the country.

although motor selection is a priority, i would look at how easy the fuel tank is to remove incase of leaks. something that is overlooked when buying a boat, and to some is not worth thinking about until it happens.
