need the right prop...

I have a 12' aluminum jonboat. two seats,two tackle bags,motor and me.total weight is in the ball park of 450 to 500 lbs. The motor im running is a 1979 Johnson Seahorse 4 h.p. Model # 4w79d The prop is just a plastic two blade prop that is held on by a cotter pin.<br />Would i have an advantage going to a 3 blade prop? what pitch should I be using? There are no #'s on the prop I have now. It just seems to have a lot of low end go. strong out of the hole but thats it. am I expecting too much? I need a new prop regardless....<br /><br />Suzuki40

Howdy, Suzi40.<br /><br />Your 4W79D is a 1979 4hp engine.<br /><br />It is a displacement speed engine. That is all you can get from it regardless of prop pitch or number of blades.

Displacement speed is the fastest a boat will go without planing. <br /><br />Four hp will not plane your boat.<br /><br />Good luck.
