Hi all - we are going to enjoy our 21' Wellcraft till mid-summer and then put it up for sale. Family has grown a lot and we are going to get a pontoon.

I've fixed up the Wellcraft to perfection, a+ condition, needs nothing.

One of the projects I had intended to do was put an extended swim platform on the back for some more room for tubing, fishing, etc. Last yr. I bought a 3' fiberglass platform from a Malibu ski boat, craigslist find for $100. I have pieced together all the mounting and support brackets. The platform needs minor restoration, repaint, and then a 3 step swim ladder. It will look great on the back.

I still have $200 to spend on this platform and 2-3 days of work to install it.

This boat is a 1995 and they go for $6000-$8000 around here.

My question is it worth it. Seems these extended swim platforms are a hot item. Does an extended swim platform really increase/decrase the resale or do people want boats in their original configurations ??? Maybe I skip this project and just sell the boat and move on. Need some thoughts..... thanks

I doubt it would increase it's value but it would probably increase its desirability. It's down to the prospective buyers preference. I think I'd leave it off but offer to sell it with the boat for at least the $$ that you have put into it. If they don't want it stick it back on C/L.

I think that since you already have the platform I would go ahead and put it on, I do not think it will add to the value much if anything but it certainly will add to the desirability of your boat when you do sell it, and it wont be lying around the garage either.

if you still have $200 to spend on it to get it done and installed I wouldn't do it. Its not going to add any $$ value in my opinion. Use it as a bargaining chip when the potential buyer starts beating you up on the price. Or like others have said, slap it back on CL.

I think it will make it easier to sell, for $200 I would do it.

I wouldn't take a screw to that hull or to that engine from here forward unless it was a requirement. If she is in good shape and has no issues and shows well, then don't press your luck.

I think the boat looks clean and tidy. The swim platform is going to be a bolt on and look like one.

I think you hit it exactly... A CUSTOM swim platform that is fitted perfectly to a hull may not increase value, but it certainly increases the desireability and makes it easier to sell. A swim platform that isn't custom fitted and meant for a different boat will looked tacked on/ugly, and will probably hurt value and ease of sale.

I guess it depends. I doubt that you'll be able to command more than a hundred bucks or so out of the sale price, but like others mentioned, it very well could be the decision maker between your boat and someone else's the buyer is considering. That being said, it depends on how the swim platform you have would look, and whether or not you want to bother re-listing it on CL. If it's only a 2-3 hours of work for you to get the project completed, I don't see any harm in it. I wouldn't lose a weekend fussing with it though.

Thanks all for the thoughts... Sounds (and feels) like the consensus of putting the platform on there is just a bunch of work with little return. I'll put off the project for now. Thanks for the feedback

+1 to leave off platform. Great looking rig btw. I love the colors, graphics, and chrome wheels. Looks good. Too bad your converting to pontoon ...
