Re: Need Tips on Bottom Painting
For the best results when bottom painting,
Try to get her to moisturize for a few days before the session, and make sure you have enough lighting and light filters to adequately show off her assets. A soft glow is best, and when first marking the canvas....
Oh, a boat?
If you're spraying, be careful, because a lot of the semi-pro paints are meant to be rolled and tipped nowadays, and they're toxic stuff.
For a boat that size, I'd recommend getting it off the trailer completely, there are posts elsewhere here on how to block it up using the trailer tongue jack. If you do it in sections then you may end up with a blotchy look depending on how good you are at duplicating paint work and blending into the old.
Wet down the surface below the boat just before painting to keep dust down and also to keep paint from adhering to your driveway or whatever.
Prep is everything. Sand and clean before painting, fill holes, fair the hull, and generally make sure it's the best surface possible if you want to make your paint job look nice. Prep work is about 95% of the paint job.
Go for several thin coats, not one thick one. Keep the spray gun moving. Follow closely the paint manufacturer's directions on thinning and application temperature.
