need to break the edges

just had a rebore on a 140 1986 evinrude looper do I need to have the edges of the ports soften so they are not so sharp.

Yes they need to have the edge lightly chamfered. You can do this with a ball stone in a die grinder. Just break the edge, don't get heavy handed.

Thats part of the boring process just like the chamfer on the top of the cylinder. If your shop is not familiar with boring outboards you might want to ask them what they used for a finished bore size.
