Greetings All,
I am new to this forum. I just drove my new Lowe roughneck 1455sc with a 40hp 4 stroke Mercury and all went pretty good. The boat takes a while to get up on plane, want to change prop and may even need trim tabs. First I need to install a tachometer. My question is can I buy the wiring harness here from iboats and JUST plug it into the smartcraft plug from my gearshift control? Before I change my prop I want to know my rpm's.. any advice will be appreciated..

Re: need to change prop on 40hp 4 stroke Mercury

Hi Cast and welcome to iBoats!

How new is the boat and motor? New to you is different than brand you, as you know.

Again, as you have stated, a tach is required for obtaining vital information to help you. This link outlines pertinent details in making a decision, http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=287818

If the motor is new, you will need to put at least 40 hours of break-in time on the motor to know it is performing at its best before making any changes with the prop.

Someone else should be able to help with the wiring details you ask about... not to worry, it shouldn't be too long before you get the information. In fact, you may need to move your request to the Merc forum for wiring help before our input on props will of help.

Good luck, we look forward to helping!
