Yesterday when I was changing my outdrive gear oil. At the end of the change I ran the drive and then pulled the dipstick to make sure the level was still correct. Then when I reinstalled dipstick and strewed it in. The threads on the female (outdrive) end stripped out. I removed the dipstick and pulled the Upper Gearcase Top Cover and cleaned up the torn threads. I can't see of the metal threads in the Upper Gearcase. Any ideas on how to verify there isn't any pieces of metal in the gear case. The only thought I have is to drain the oil again. I am taking the cover to a local machine shop to fix the torn threads.

My outdrive is a 1997 OMC Cobra outdrive

Thanks in advance
Clayton
