Need to increase idle speed

I have a early 80's 70hp Johnson and need to increase the idle speed. When shifiting from neutral to forward or reverse motor dies unless throttle is moved forward quickly to up engine speed. It used to idle fine until this year. How do I slightly increase idle speed in forward?

Sounds like low speed jets, you should do a complete carb rebuild.

Yes!
Do not bring up the idle.
You will be revving too high and when you engage forward or reverse you will grind the gears


But... it you really wanted to there is a screw that the throttle switch sits on under the hood. You can adjust it from there by turning the screw out.
