Like m48strat, I took out my back to back seats and replaced them with pedestals. I also had foam under the bases. What I did was take a saw and cut the foam out level with the frame that the seat bases were attatched to. Once they were out, I attached a 3/4 piece of plywood to the frame and then attatched the pedestal to it.

Now to my problem. I bought a couple of pedestal seats from ebay that looked to be comfortable. However, when fishing for anytime at all, my bottom starts to ache as does my fishing partners.

Since The boat is a beater but runs well and is perfect for fishing, I don't want to invest anymore than I have to. We're both pretty good sized guys so before I spend more for a piece of foam that may or may not help, I'd like to solicit ideas from the group. What kind of cushion would you use to put on top of the pedestal seat while your fishing or riding for a long time to make the seat more comfortable?

You may want to do what I am doing. Same problem. I am carefully removing the staples holding the cover to the underside of the seat board. Take the cover off, measure the thickness of the soft squisshy OPEN FOAM. I cut it in 1/2, and bought some soft CLOSED CELL FOAM. Cut it the same size as the 1/2 piece I removed.Put the CLOSED CELL on the wood base then the OPEN CELL, then the cover, then very carefully jiggle the cover edges to the same places and staple. Oh, Before I removed the cover, I took Magic Marker and traced the cover on the seat bottom. Also made a few MATCH MARKS across the cover and seat bottom. No more dented butt meat after 1 hour. Good luck. Was a piece of carefull cake. DO NOT USE THE SAME STAPLE HOLES.
