Hi All,

I wouldn't have thought it would be so difficult to find info about this old outdrive but I am not finding anything definitive. I purchased a 1968 Starcraft Holiday V with a mercruiser 120. It is in pretty decent shape and has been in storage since 1996. The serial on the upper gear housing is 3469796 which I believe would make it a MC type 1 from 1973 according to one source, I don't remember which. That also would lead me to believe that the drive was replaced if not completely repowered. I have not chceked the engine serial yet.

If someone could verify that I am correct before I go off and order a bunch of parts for it. Also if someone has a link to what they consider to be the best source of identification info I'd appreciate it as well.

Being that it hasn't had regular maintenance in 16 years I figured I would start with a transom reseal kit, gimbal bearing, bellows, and a water pump kit. Any advice on what else should be changed just as a preventive "just because?"

The first couple of links in this section of the Adults Only sticky should cover the ID http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=329915

This manual should cover both the drive and the engine http://www.4shared.com/office/zIkYIr7d/01__Eng__Drives_63-73.html?
There is also models covered page on page 5 of the manual.

Be sure when you have the outdrive apart for the raw water pump repair, that you do a pressure check of the drive before you put oil in it, and before you put it back on the boat.

Thanks again Don for coming to the rescue. I have looked at that sticky but it's been a while and I forgot that one was there. A ton of great information. It also confirms that my drive is a 1973 type 1 MC.

I can't believe how difficult that info is to come by when you're looking for parts.
