Need to prep the motor after carb cleaning?

I worry that I'll damage the motor by cranking it after it has sat for 4 years and now the fuel lines are empty. When doing a compression test tonight, it sounded very much like metal on metal.
By cranking it, the fuel/oil will eventually get thru the system, but before that happens? Should I worry about it? Or will the premix get through before any damage is done?

Any input is appreciated!
Thanks,
Jason

Remove all spark plugs. Sqirt some wd40 into the spark plug holes and let it sit for a while than turn motor by hand using the flywheel.
Should help prelube the cylinders.
The wd40 will ignite but may smoke a bit. Better to smoke than dry-fire.

Re: Need to prep the motor after carb cleaning?

Thanks for the tip. I was very worried after hearing the metalic noises on cranking (for compression test).

I'll shoot some WD40 in the spark plug holes and crank it by hand first.

Thanks!
All other ideas welcome!

Jason
