Need to replace engine...what will work

I am in need of a replacement engine. I currently have a Mercruiser 140 in a 1971 Larson 16' boat. Its also i/o. I was wondering if there was any other manufacturers engine I could use in my boat like OMC/ Volvo. Or if i could upgrade to maybe just a slightly bigger engine like a Mercruiser 165? I want to keep the outdrive that I have to save a little on cost

You should stick with the Mercruiser 140 for an easy refit.
