Need to shorten throttle control cable

I have a 1959 Glaspar G3 speed boat that I am restoring and it is only 13ft long and have a 70hp yamaha remote and cables off a pontoon boat that are way to long.Can I shorten the cables?

Buy new shorter cables or coil them up if you can without binding the movement up too much, which is probably not going to work

Thanks best buy new then,don't want to be tangled up in cables if it goes over.
