Need tunes for the boat, what to buy

I have been looking to put tunes in the boat and have been looking at options.
First one that comes to mind is this one below.

I installed the stereo last night. (Millenia PRV-15) It's the smallest 4x40 stereo I've ever seen that has a USB hookup. (not to mention it's under $100 most places)

Question for veilside has this been working out or should I look at something else.
I like the idea of dumping the speedo as I use the GPS for that.

I goth this one here on iboats. Cool little system. They make more powerful systems if you want something louder. That is the volume on the right and the aux input on the left. I used existing holes in the dash.

Well this input is probably not helpful since you seem to be leaning towards one of those little remote jobs.....but if you do end up going with a more traditional in-dash head unit, and if you typically use an ipod, I highly recommend this one http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe..._AM/FM/Satellite/iPod_Docking_Marine_Receiver I have the car version of it and it's awesome. When I got it, I immediately thought it would be awesome in a boat because of being able to store and protect the ipod and sure enough, the released a marine version.

hey Gib, some people have to spend the $ for rosetta stone and you get it for free....no complaints.

i'd been leaning towards one of the all-in-one package deals for head unit and speakers, on the theory that electronics that go in an open boat which will be left in dry storage for months at a time should be the cheapest possible. but these pod docks may be the better solution.

i just refuse to pay more for the stereo than i spent on buying the boat/motor/trailer!

Thanks Guy's for the suggestions.
I have been listening to the music in my head but I have run out of songs.
Need to reload and what better time to do it then in the boat.

I have also been looking at cheap portable radios I can plug in mp3 or usb stick.
Need to watch my amp load as I have lots of stuff running when just on the kicker.
Don't need much power as I'm not rockin the house down.

Ed you can come over and sing anytime bud.... might even take you fishin....:D

I agree.

For my jet I want something really basic.
Once I get the nova going I will have a bit more to work with, and I can even build enclosures in the side pannels easy enough... I still have to figure out the real difference of marine vs automotive.
they have little water tight face plate covers, and speakers that have a plastic cone... seal the back up and it should be gtg?
I could save a fortune going that route, but I would perfer something actually meant for a boat...

cabelas had a close out on some marine radios with speakers for $79 back in jan, but I ended up spending my $ on seats @ $25 instead. :)

I also saw a little charging coil kit for my kicker on ebay... :D

Maybe I'm over thinking this whole thing, and I just need a cheap battery powered radio/mp3 player.

Personally, I will never install a built-in stereo in my boat. More wiring, more holes cut, more stuff to break. Plus there's so many great portable options out there (Sirius, ipod, etc.) and then you can take it with you to other activities!

Re: Need tunes for the boat, what to buy

I agree with EZ, and don't think a dash mounted stereo is worthwhile. Thats a personal opinion and the Millenia PRV-15 looks like one I would buy if I was going to. I mostly fish, so a loud stereo isn't needed, so I just use my MP3 player and a 'portable speaker' I got at walmart for $20. It takes 4 AA's and works for days. I use rechargeable batteries in both the MP3 player and speaker, so I never have to worry about dead batteries.

I just put a dot of velcro on both to keep them from dancing around, and have a 1/8th inch patch cable going from the headphone output to the speakers input. Play's tunes all day, portable, no wires to connect or holes to drill, and wont get stolen cause you just take it will you.

Here's some that are like what I got.
