Hi i have a 2007 toyota highlander with the tow prep package. I got a hitch for it but now i need the wire harness. I called the dealer and they want 88 dollars for the converter. I was just wondering if anybody knew of a place cheaper or the part number. I really don't want to order the wrong one off the web, wich i'm sure i can find it cheaper than from the dealer.

thanks
matt

Farm stores and most any store that sells auto parts will have them. Seems to me they about 35 bucks. The one from Toyota is very likely "plug & play" whereas the generic units will need to be wired into the existing wiring.

yea i think the toyota is the plug and play kind. so if i go with the generic is it hard to wire? or is there another company that makes the plug and play?

Take a look back there and see what you've got. If there is a nice plug/socket waiting for the new piece, I'd get it from Toyota. If it's just wires, get a generic and hook it up. They're not hard to wire in...

Like Silvertip said, check your auto parts store or farm supply for the harness. Farm and Fleet in WI has harnesses for just about every truck made and all are plug and play.

Re: need wire harness converter

Well, i got the converter kit from toyota, followed instructions to put it in. Thing is, there is supposed to be a wire harness tucked under the back. Guess what, it's not there, no wonder i was having a hard time finding it. The manual says there should be one there to plug in. So i guess i have to go to the dealer and ask them for one.
From what i've read on toyota boards, this is kind of a common thing, lots of people trying to wire their harness only to find that it isn't there.
huh
