Need wiring diagram for '89 Merc 70 ELPTO

The engine is almost new. Very low hours. Key switch failed and owner removed all wiring so the could take it to buy a replacement switch. Before he installed the switch, he died. The boat has been in storage for 13 years.<br /><br />Now I need a wiring diagram. I have both the old switch and the replacement. They are not identical but both have 7 poles.<br /><br />I tried to download a diagram from Mastertec but all I get is gobbledegook.<br /><br />I need help!

ken, what is the serial number... i can help you but i have two diff sets of diagrams

here, maybe this will help... <br />note: this is the same for my 1976 merc 115hp , so im guessing its probably the standard for electric start motors using mercontrols<br />A=red(pos +)<br />b=yellow(nuetral safety switch, then to selenoid)<br />c=grey(from choke switch to choke on motor)<br />d=black(ground)<br />e=orange(manual doesnt specify or show WHAT this is)<br />f=white(to choke switch and also to switch box)<br />g=brown(from tach connect to rectifier)<br />"off" position=D,E<br />"RUN"= A,F<br />"START" = A,F, and B<br /><br /><br />hope this helps, if not email me<br /><br />m ikey<br /><br />ps... on an unrelated note, i have some acreage in crystal river im trying to sell in the "mini farms" but it hasnt sold yet, please buy it, ill throw in a free outboard!!!

I am looking at my manual, and it say that 1987 and up have 8 poles.<br /><br />But here it is anyway:<br /><br />1. Black/Yellow<br />2. Purple<br />3. Tan/Blue<br />4. Black<br />5. Grey<br />6. Yellow/Black<br />7. Yellow/Red<br />8. Red<br /><br />Page A-27 of the Seloc Manual.

Engine model # is 70ELPTO<br /><br />Serial # OC106948<br /><br />The NEW Key switch is labled as follows:<br />C in center-------Choke<br />A at 11 o'clock---(Accessory)<br />M at 12 o'clock---(Magneto)<br />B at 2 o'clock----(Battery)<br />M at 5 0'clock----(Magneto)<br />I at 7 o'clock----(Ignition)<br /><br />Now, all I need to know is which color goes where.<br /><br />All of the wiring harnesses are sound. Everything plugs in SO there seems to be no way to screw up with them.<br /><br />The fuse pannel has been messed with but all grounds are black according to what I can see and the colored wires are pos. <br /><br />The boat (1990 SeaNymph)came with a beautiful set of wiring diagrams---EXCEPT FOR THE ONE I NEED SHOWING THE KEY SWITCH. Likely, this is a proprietary Merc diagram.<br /><br />I certainly appreciate the info. I am totally shut down until I get key switch info.<br /><br />Ken
